Basketball League Rules
    General Information
  1. Basketball America’s basketball leagues are designed for all ages and abilities, to provide a healthy form of recreation in a high quality environment.
  2. All high school rules apply except where modified by Basketball America. Basketball America reserves the right to study and incur decisions on any situation not expressly covered by high school rules or these modifications. Such decisions are final.
  3. Because of the nature of this game, players run the risk of injury and must be aware of this prior to participating.
    Game Rules
  1. All High School rules will be enforced except where modified herein.
  2. Forfeit time is 5 minutes after scheduled game time.
  3. A team may start and finish with 2 players.
  4. In 3-on-3 all shots inside the arc - 1 point, outside the arc - 2 points.
  5. Red paint is out of bounds backboard posts and walls are out-of-bounds touching sideline nets are out of bounds.
  1. All Divisions:We will run four 8-minute quarters with a running clock, the clock will be stopped the last two minutes of each half on every whistle.
  2. There will be 1 minute between quarters and 2 minutes at the half.
  3. Each team will get 2 time outs per half. (1 minute each).
  4. Players that did not start the 1st quarter must start the 2nd quarter.
  5. Overtimes will be three minutes long each, with one additional time out per team.

  1. Midwest Division only: Half court defense must be played after a made basket or when the defense takes possession in their backcourt. NO PRESS!
  2. All other Divisions: After a made basket or when the defense takes possession out of bounds at the baseline of their back court, the defense must allow the opposing team to take possession inbounds. This is the only half court restriction in these divisions.
  3. Midwest Division only: There will be shooting fouls, the free throw line will be approximately 1 foot closer than the regular free throw.
  4. All other Divisions: Shooting foul - 1 shot if shooting inside arc or 2 shots if shooting outside arc.
  5. Common foul - out of bounds
  6. All Divisions: 7 team fouls per half creates bonus situation. In bonus, player gets 2 shots to make one.
  7. Technical fouls will result in two free throws and possession of the ball.
  8. 4 technical fouls in the season results in 1 game suspension.
  9. A player can be thrown out of the game for either swearing, fighting or 2 technical fouls.
  10. Dunking is allowed but no hanging on rims.
  11. Hanging on rims will result in a technical foul.

    Player Conduct and Suspensions
  1. Any player, manager, coach, sponsor, representative or spectator of a team is under jurisdiction of Basketball America while on the court or in the building.
  2. Only the Head Coach is allowed to discuss with the referee an interpretation of a rule. Coaches are responsible for controlling their team and will be expected to take an active roll in "managing" all players.
  3. Any person associated with this program who uses or threatens violence during this program will be suspended automatically from Basketball America. This includes abusive language. Length of suspension determined by Basketball America management.
